I played Connie’s 1-year anniversary last night. The place has been around forever, but the open mic there, hosted by AJ Stone, just hit a year. He invited some great performers to come celebrate, like Don Lee, Sarah Forney, the WMDs and yours truly. To be quite honest, the place sucks. I mean, it’s got A/C and it’s clean, but it’s got posters of Michael Bolton, the Sopranos, and Jon Bon Jovi (circa 1995). Michael fucking Bolton! Well, AJ Stone is a good time, so I’ll leave it at that.
Which brings me to my next topic: Jazz & Blues Festival in Red Bank! Woo-hoo! Check out my weekend:
Friday: Jazz & Blues ’til 6:30, hitting the last Sudsy Mug open mic (hosted by my buddy, Cook) ’til about 8pm, then going to see Nicole Atkins and Jesse Malin at the Stone Pony (thank you 90.5 The Night, for the free tickets)
Saturday: Jazz & Blues ’til 6pm, then I’m setting up to perform on Monmouth St., as part of RiverCenter’s StreetLife, from 7-10. I’ll be stationed at 65 Monmouth St., so come check me out. I’ll also be taking 2 20-minute breaks, one of which will be used to check out The Key To Our Secret, at the Internet Cafe.
Sunday: Jazz & Blues ’til 3pm, then I’m off to the Twisted Tree Cafe open mic (hosted by the oh-so-awesome Shelly Arden), and then back to Red Bank for Majnun’s last week hosting the RBMC’s open mic at the Internet Cafe (we’re gonna send him off right).
So, in summation, I’m going to perform 4 times and watch maybe 2-3 dozen other performances this weekend. While we can’t have the Wave Gathering every weekend, it doesn’t mean that I can’t cram in as much music as possible.
