Upcoming, past, and potential gigs

The Jonathan Coulton Sing-Along (NOT featuring Jonathan Coulton) is quickly approaching on March 1, so I wanted to give you a few quick updates. First of all, the event is at Stay Gold Cafe & Lounge, which is at 800 Main St., in Belmar, NJ. There’s a full menu of awesomeness, and it’s a BYO, so feel free. Oh, and did I mention this show is FREE?

We currently have 5 singer/songwriters performing: Eric Ginsberg (duh), Alex Biese, TV’s Adam, Nathan Dickinson, and Bob Denson. And the song list is up to 29 songs! Holy cow that’s a lot of JoCo songs!

Also, March 1 is the night before Belmar’s epic annual St. Patrick’s Day Parade, so if you’d like to make a weekend out of it here at the shore, maybe book a room somewhere.

We’re gonna play non-stop from about 6:00-10:00. It’ll be like the Bruce Springsteen concert of Jonathan Coulton tribute shows. But this room is small, so get there early to claim your perch; once the show gets started, the mix of JoCo fans and other Stay Gold patrons will make it standing-room only.

See you there!

Okay. So I’ve got almost everything sorted out for the upcoming Storytelling Night at The Saint, in Asbury Park, on Tuesday, March 11.

There will be true stories on the night’s theme, “How did I get here?” by:
Chris Rockwell (from Chris Rockwell & the Stickball Social Club), Ben Feld, Barry Petersen (from Barry and the Penetrators), Krislyn Ellicott, George Condon, Geena (from Geena and Dragster), James Dalton, and Eric Ginsberg (duh).

There will also be true stories about one original song, followed by an intimate, acoustic performance of that one song by local singer-songwriters:
James Dalton, Geena (from Geena and Dragster), Gary Mayer (from Thomas Wesley Stern), Amanda Duncan, CM Smith (from The Amboys), Michael Brett, Tommy Strazza, Arlan Feiles, and, of course, Eric Ginsberg (double-duh).

If you like stories, and you like songs, and you like cheap beer on a Tuesday night, check out the Facebook event page and RSVP to this free event.

Which isn’t to say that you should in any way forget about The Jonathan Coulton Sing-Along (NOT featuring Jonathan Coulton), which is coming up first, on March 1, and is also totally free.

A few quick things before I get into it:
JoCoVert2- There is a new poster for The Jonathan Coulton Sing-Along (NOT featuring Jonathan Coulton). Click it. Print it. Hand it to people and post it up places.

- RSVP to that on Facebook and invite your friends. Also, I’m temporarily claiming the hashtag #JoCoSho, so use it to promote and tell friends.

- I’ve heard some of the mixes from my new album and they are good. So good.

- The storytelling event at The Saint has been shifted to March 11 and I’ve been put in charge of it. Check the details; I’m doing something really cool.

- I’ve got a few more balls up in the air that I’m excited to share with you but can’t just yet. So be patient.

Oh. Well, I guess that was everything I wanted to get into. Done and done.

I’ve been playing a little bit more and a little bit more. I did about 10 songs the other night at Stay Gold (which has become my new favorite place in Belmar, aside from my house), and there are now TWO upcoming shows over there in the sidebar –>>>>

They’re both in Belmar and they’re both cover shows, but very unique in that the first is locals covering locals, so I’ll be playing songs my friends wrote, and the second is “The Jonathan Coulton Sing-Along (NOT featuring Jonathan Coulton)” where everyone will exclusively play songs written or popularized by Jonathan Coulton.

You can actually sign up to play both shows if you hit the Shows link to your right and follow the sign-up link there. Michael Brett and Gary Wien are running Locals Covering Locals on Jan 26 and I’m running the JoCoSho on March 1.

Pretty sure both shows are free, but I know the JoCoSho will get packed quickly, so come early, be ready to sing along, and wear your a JoCo t-shirt if you have one; we’re gonna be that nerdy.

I’m about 8 and a half months pregnant with my new album, so I’ve been getting back out on the scene to play a little more music. I was at The Saint in Asbury Park last night and I’ve been hitting a few open mics when I’m available.

But if you’d like to see me play a full set this Saturday afternoon, I’ll be at Claddagh Irish Pub for a family-friendly Toy Drive to help those affected by Hurricane Sandy. Check out the details in the sidebar to your right, or by clicking here.

I know how to play a ton of Jonathan Coulton songs. But there are only so many I can work into my set at a regular show. So to have an excuse to play them, I’m organizing “The Jonathan Coulton Sing-Along (NOT featuring Jonathan Coulton)” on March 1, 6pm-10pm, at Belmar’s Stay Gold Cafe & Lounge.

To ensure we don’t show up with the same songs, comment your song list below.

Here are the rules:

1. Must be able to play at least 3 JoCo songs (written or covered by JoCo)
2. DO NOT pick a song someone else has reserved
3. Must know how to play the songs all the way through, well enough to get up on stage with them (no I-kind-of-know-the-chorus-and-some-of-the-verse nonsense)
4. No bands (sorry, solo or acoustic duo only)
5. If someone else picked a song that you need to get to 3, and they have more than that, let me know and maybe we can work something out (no promises though)

I’ll be playing:
Future Soon
Re Your Brains
First of May
Tom Cruise Crazy
Nemeses (with Alex Biese)
Chiron Beta Prime
Tonight You Belong to Me (with Laura Braswell)
